David Jennings’ two-run triple lifts Rays over Mariners

St. Petersburg, FL, United States (AHN Sports) – David Jennings ripped a two-run double in the second inning, and Jeff Niemann pitched 5 2/3 innings of solid ball in allowing 3 earned runs as the Tampa Bay Rays edged the Seattle Mariners 4-3 Thursday afternoon.

Tampa Bay improved its remarkable early-season record to 18-8.

Ichiro’s RBI double in the fifth got the Mariners within a run, but Jake McGee and Fernando Rodney tossed 3 1/3 innings of perfect ball.

Rodney recorded his ninth save and reduced his ERA to an impressive 0.73.

Kevin Milwood took the loss for Seattle, allowing all four runs over 6 1/3 frames. He fell to 0-3.

John Jaso led the M’s with a pair of hits.
