Columbus, OH, United States (AHN Sports) – Ohio State baseball is going to need a strong finish to make it to the postseason.

The Buckeyes are currently on the outside looking in as far as the postseason is concerned but they are close enough that they have a realistic shot of making it.

Ohio State (24-20, 8-10 Big Ten) is currently in eighth place in the conference, six games out of first place after losing two of three games at Penn State over the weekend.

The Buckeyes are hoping a strong finish will give them a shot at the first NCAA tournament appearance since 2009, when they went 42-19 and earned an at-large bid for the NCAA tournament.

To get there Ohio State need to first finish in at least sixth place in the Big Ten to qualify for the Big Ten tournament. With 12 games remaining in the regular season, Ohio State is 1 1/2 games behind a group of four teams tied for fourth place.

The Buckeyes are behind Nebraska, Michigan State, Illinois and Penn State, who are all tied for fourth with an 8-7 Big Ten record.

OSU’s next game is against Northwestern (14-26, 5-13 Big Ten) Friday at 7 p.m.
