Sharjah, United Arab Emirates Fourth Estate – A newborn baby boy thrown by his mother down a garbage chute of a residential building in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates has survived and is recuperating Tuesday night.
Doctors at the Al Qasimi Hospital said the baby suffered from infections, a fractured skull and brain hemorrhage after falling from the ninth floor of the building on April 24.
According to Dr. Muna Khalaf, a pediatrics consultant at the Al Qasimi Hospital in Sharjah, the hemorrhage has stopped and the boy will be staying at the pediatrics ward for a while.
Hospital director Dr. Aref Al Nourani said they could be keeping the baby up to 10 days before handing him over to the Sharjah social care center.
A building watchman found the baby during his morning rounds on April 24, wrapped in plastic bags, and immediately informed the police. An ambulance patrol then took the baby to Al Qasimi Hospital where he was treated and taken care of.
The mother chose to get rid of the baby because he was a product of her illicit affair with a man from another country. She apparently dumped the baby immediately after giving birth to it herself.
Meanwhile, police arrested the mother of the baby, a 26-year-old Filipina maid, under suspicion of illegally working for an Asian family.
