Dalglish optimistic of Liverpool’s chance at FA Cup Final
London, United Kingdom (AHN Sports) – Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish claimed his team has a shot at beating Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup Final despite the Reds’ disappointing 1-0 loss to Fulham in Tuesday’s English Premier League match at Anfield.
The 61-year-old Dalglish was clearly disappointed on another listless performance by his team on their home turf but insisted the loss won’t affect Liverpool in its upcoming clash with scorching hot Chelsea.
“The attitude and desire was not there. We can’t play at that tempo, we have to play quicker than that. “I have to take part of the blame because I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to get minutes on the pitch and a chance to push their case.” Dalglish told NDTV Sports Tuesday “But the performance and attitude were very poor and that’s not like us. Our attitude and approach is where it went wrong.
Fulham captured its first ever victory against Liverpool at Anfield, pulling off the historic feat courtesy of an own goal from Martin Skrtel and the Reds considerably weak line-up as they rested stars in preparation for their upcoming FA Cup Final showdown with Chelsea.
Fulham finally left Anfield with the victory for the first time in 31 chances as the Cottagers capitalized on Skrtel’s blunder in the fifth minute and the absence of Liverpool stars such as Steven Gerrard, Luis Suarez, and goaltender Jose Reina.
Liverpool managed only five win and dropped 30 points at home this season. On Tuesday, they must beat Chelsea in their last home game of the season to prevent them from recording the worst home season in franchise history.
After the stunning loss, Dalglish won’t assure everyone to start for the upcoming FA Cup finals except Andy Carroll, who played solid 90 minutes after returning from a minor groin injury.
“It was good to see Andy back, he had a niggle at the weekend but he’s back and fit and played the 90 minutes without any repercussion so that is good for us,” Dalglish told NDTV Sports Tuesday.
