Blacksburg, VA, United States (AHN Sports) – James Johnson wasn’t gone long for the Virginia Tech men’s basketball program.
The program’s former assistant returned just weeks after being hired for an assistant post at Clemson to take over as the Hokies head coach, according to reports Monday.
Johnson takes over for Seth Greenberg, who wasn’t retained following a 16-17 season and 4-12 ACC slate.
The Hokies will look to retain top recruits, 6-foot-7 Marshall Wood (Lynchburg, Va./Rustburg) and 6-7 power forward Montrezl Harrell, a Tarboro, N.C., product who played prep basketball at Hargrave Military Academy, where the new coach also previously worked.
Guard Erick Green, forward Cadarian Raines and freshman Dorian Finney-Smith also return.
