Sydney, Australia (AHN) – Australian billionaire mining magnate Clive Palmer has announced a plan to build a replica of Titanic to pay tribute to those who originally built the ship.
In a statement to media, Palmer said that the ship’s construction would begin at the end of next year and it would set sail in 2016 from London to New York.
The mining billionaire said that he has signed an agreement with CSC Jinling Shipyard, a Chinese state-owned company to build an exact copy of the original Titanic, but with modern technology.
“It will be every bit as luxurious as the original Titanic but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st Century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems,” he said in a statement.
The largest luxury ship of its time, Titanic, which was then dubbed as the ‘unsinkable’, went down on the night of April 15, 1912 when it struck an iceberg while moving between Southampton to New York.
The accident killed more than 1,500 people.
