ALLPORT – The West Branch baseball squad scored in each of the four innings it came to bat to easily down the Curwensville Golden Tide Friday afternoon in Allport, 15-2.
The game was called after 4 and ½ innings due to the 10-Run mercy rule being enforced.
Curwensville took a quick 2-0 lead after it batted in the top of the first inning but would soon see the offensive power of the Warriors take over.
Tanner Elensky started the first inning for the Tide with an infield single and advanced to second base on a stolen base.
With one out, Boone McGary doubled to left field to bring home Elensky with the game’s first run. McGary would then score the Tide’s second and last run of the day on a ground out by Kyle Bloom.
The Warriors responded with two runs in the first and two more in the second to take a 4-2 lead after two innings.
It was the third inning that put the game out of reach as West Branch picked up eight runs followed by three more in the fourth to have the 10-Run rule come into play.
Curwensville was lead by McGary and Jesse Zorger with two hits each.
West Branch, who plays Glendale at home on Monday, had Jonathan Sanker and Chad Speigel with three hits each. Two of Sankers’ hits were doubles.
Curtis Baugh and Aaron Lidgett helped out the Warriors with two hits apiece. Baugh led off the bottom of the first inning for West Branch with a solo home run.
Curwensville head coach Denny Johns spoke afterwards about West Branch and his team committing four errors, “West Branch is too good of a team to leave that many outs on the field. And Chad (Speigle) and Aaron (Lidgett) are extremely good pitchers, as they showed this afternoon.”
As for his squad Johns said, “ I keep repeating this, but this team (Curwensville) just needs to keep battling. And obviously we need to break out of this slump we are in.”
The Tide, now 2-8 on the season, will journey to Kane on Monday to meet up with the Wolves in a game that is scheduled to start at 4:15 pm.
