Haifa, Israel (AHN Sports) – Former Syracuse associate head coach Bernie Fine is going back to work.
Fired by Syracuse last November in the wake of allegations that he sexually molested two former ball boys, Fine was hired as a basketball consultant by Maccabi Bazan Haifa of the Israeli Basketball Super League the team announced Thursday.
The team is owned by Florida-based businessman Jeffrey Rosen.
Fine will work from the U.S. and consult on player personnel decisions and the search for a new coach for next season.
Fine was a coach for the Orange for 36 seasons before being fired in November. Fine has denied any wrongdoing and charges have yet to be filed while a federal investigation continues.
Maccabi Bazan Haifa is scheduled to play two exhibition games against NBA teams in October. Last season it lost center Sean Williams to the NBA when the lockout ended in December and finished in last place in Israel’s 11-team top division with a 5-20 record.
