Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda out for season
NY, NY, United States (AHN Sports) – New York Yankees pitcher Michael Pineda will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair a labrum tear in his right shoulder.
Pineda, acquired in the offseason for minor league star Jesus Montero, will miss the remainder of the season.
“He didn’t have his velocity from Day One, and we didn’t know why,” Yankees GM Brian Cashman said, according to ESPN.com, though he didn’t blame the Mariners for the situation. “This must have been responsible. Clearly, he was fighting through something … In no way do I or the New York Yankees believe the Mariners knew about this injury. Michael was a fully healthy player when we got him.”
New York Mets team physician Dr. David Altchek will perform the procedure as per request of the player and his agent, Fern Cuza.
Yankees team doctor Chris Ahmad will also take part and told the website the hurler may not be ready to pitch again for a year.
