New York, NY, United States (AHN Sports) – New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin and New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow are included in Time Magazine’s “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World,” a major sports media outlet reported Wednesday.
The 23-year-old Lin joined the exclusive list of influential personalities after taking the sporting world by storm with a string of impressive performances – including a 38-point explosion against the Los Angeles Lakers in February.
The unique part about Lin’s story is the fact that he virtually came from nowhere. Lin, the first NBA player of Chinese ancestry and a Harvard alumnus, spent a majority of his rookie year and was waived twice before barely landing a guaranteed deal with the Knicks.
“Jeremy Lin’s story is a great lesson for kids everywhere because it debunks and defangs so many of the prejudices and stereotypes that unfairly hold children back. He’s dispelled the idea that Asian-American guards somehow couldn’t hack it in the NBA — and that being a world-class athlete on the court is somehow at odds with being an excellent student off the court.” a writer opined in Time.
Tebow was also selected in the prestigious list after the charismatic quarterback led the Denver Broncos to several victories – most of them coming from behind – and the franchise’s first playoff victory in over a decade.
Despite this accomplishment, Tebow found himself traded to the Jets following the arrival of four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning in Denver last month.
Lin and Tebow are favorably compared with each other because of their deep Christian faith.
Other sports personalities who made it in the list are South African runner Oscar Pistorius, soccer player Lionel Messi, golfer Yani Tseng, and tennis no.1 netter Novak Djokovic.
