Milan, Italy (AHN Sports) – Italian soccer player Piermario Morosini, 25, died Saturday after suffering cardiac arrest.
The incident occurred during a Serie B match at Pescara, as Morosini fell to the ground in the 31st minute. A defibrillator was utilized and he was conscious for a time.
He was taken to Santo Spirito hospital, where officials confirmed Morosini’s death.
“He looked at me in the eyes when he was taken into the ambulance,” Pescara’s general manager, Danilo Iannascoli, told Sky Italia. “We are living through a drama … “I don’t know if the ambulance was late, but I know that the entrance onto the pitch was blocked by a vehicle … Morosini collapsed, he tried to get back up but then collapsed again.”
The remainder of Italian matches for the weekend were called off.
