Kilmarnock, United Kingdom (AHN Sports) – After a few weeks of delay, Celtic F.C. finally clinched the Scottish League Cup crown with Charlie Mulgrew scoring twice in a scorching first half en route to a 6-0 thrashing of Kilmarnock Saturday at Rugby Park.

Left-back Mulgrew also had two assists for the Hoops, who claimed their first league title since the 2007-08 season.

Glenn Loovens and Gary Hooper accounted for the other two goals in the opening 45 minutes, while Joe Ledley and Hooper added one apiece after the break.

Celtic, prevented from clinching the title with Rangers F.C.’s back-to-back triumphs, drew first blood in the 8th minute courtesy of Mulgrew, who then set up Loovens in the 17th for a 2-0 lead.

The Hoops are expected to carry the momentum to the next Scottish Cup semi-final against Hearts at Hampden.

Celtic lost in the Scottish League Cup final to Kilmarnock last month.

Also Saturday, Rangers firmed its grip on second place in the table with a 3-1 rout of St. Mirren at the Ibrox Stadium.

Aberdeen halted a surging Dundee United side with a 3-1 at Pittodrie Stadium. It also snapped a three-game skid for the Dons.

At East End Park, Dunfermline dropped to relegation following a 2-1 home loss to Hearts.

In Perth, Scotland, St. Johnstone battled Inverness to a scoreless draw at McDiarmid Park. The win coupled by Dundee United’s loss enabled St. Johnstone to move to fourth place in Scottish Premier standings, one point clear of United.

Whatever idiot wrote this knows nothing about football so should only be reporting on what happened at the local mothers union meeting and not on what happened in a Scottish football game.
Celtic did not thump Kilmarnock to win the Scottish League Cup, but they did thump them to win the Scottish League.
Kilmarnock beat Celtic a few weeks ago to win the Scottish League Cup which is a completely different competition.
Idiots should not write reports if they are incapable of understanding the subject they are reporting on.
