DUBOIS – DuBois City Council voted to continue the City of DuBois Pool’s 2011 rates. Pool season begins May 21, and specific season passes purchased before that date can receive a discount up to $10. The decision was made after checking with the prices of area pools.
“When we run a city pool it always runs at a loss,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.
In 2011 the pool cost the city $19,000 more than it took in through sales. According to Suplizio, 2011 was a good year and it is subsidized by city tax dollars.
The council decline to allow a right-of-way through some property they own on the watershed. According to Suplizio, this was the second request after members of the Munsee family had asked for a property swap initially. Lloyd and Sandra Munsee had asked the city for help as they own two adjacent lots of land with no access to or out of.
City Solicitor Toni Cherry explained the city’s reason for rejecting the allowance of a right-of-way through city land. The two lots were a set of four split from one original lot between four members of the Munsee family. The family had split the land themselves in a way to prevent two of them from having a way to access their land.
Cherry stated she would send a letter recommending to the two Munsee family members to look into having their subdivision corrected for this problem.
