Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – A sensitive conference call between the FBI and Scotland Yard was recorded and released online by hackers of the group Anonymous, the group boasted Friday.
The group released a roughly 15 minute long recording of what appears to be a conference call that took place on Jan. 17, devoted to tracking and prosecuting members of the lose knit hacking group and its spinoff LulzSec.
FBI sources maintain there was no classified information on the call, and added that unsecured phones are not used for sensitive information.
The authenticity of the recording could not be immediately verified. It is also not clear how the hacking group got the information.
If authentic, the discussion itself appears to quite sensitive. Those on the call were discussing what legal strategy to peruse in the cases of Ryan Cleary and Jake Davis, two British suspects linked to Anonymous. There were also discussions of what evidence has been gathered against other suspects.
Anonymous also published an email reportedly sent by an FBI agent which gave details and a password for accessing the call.
Included in the material published by Anonymous was a message supposedly sent by an FBI agent to international law enforcement agencies. It invites his foreign counterparts to join the call to “discuss the on-going investigations related to Anonymous and other associated splinter groups.”
The email included a phone number and password for accessing the call.
Anonymous is believed to have hacked into a website by the Boston Police Department Friday morning.
Anonymous is an eclectic mix of internet enthusiasts, pranksters and activists, Created in 2003,, they have in the past targeted the Church of Scientology, the music industry and financial companies including MasterCard and Visa.
