Miami, FL, United States (AHN) – Two men face are facing animal cruelty charges after authorities received a call reporting crying coming from a van. When officers arrived on the scene they discovered a flock of various animals in the car.
Miami police were initially responding to a call on Monday where someone thought they heard a baby crying in the parked van. Inside the van officers found eight roosters, four guinea hens, four pigeons, four goats and one duck in distress.
The goats were discovered tied up in plastic bags.
Police said one of the goats died later that in the day but didn’t reveal how the animal expired.
James Arroyo Jr., 44, and Raul Armenteros, 46, who police said were responsible for the car, arrived about 45 minutes after the officers showed up.
“All the animals in the van appeared to be in distress and lacking of water,” police wrote in their report.
Both men were arrested and charged with 22 counts of animal cruelty with intent to injure. The men, who appeared in court Tuesday morning, are each being held on $110,000 bond.
