DUBOIS – On Saturday night at Showers Field in DuBois the Clearfield Chiefs almost pulled off the upset of regular season league champion DuBois; but in the end, the Chiefs fell short and were eliminated by a 9-6 score.
Down 6-4 heading to the bottom of the fifth inning, DuBois exploded for five runs, all unearned; the big blow a two-out three run homer by Garrett Peterson. Clearfield starter Andrew Redden “pitched well in only his second start of the season, but just ran out of gas in the fifth”, according to long-time Chief manager Sid Lansberry.
Derek Danver continued his amazing run to close out the season. His single in the first inning contined a 12 hit in 12 official at-bat streak. The final tally was a 14 for 16 finish!
Redden also led the offensive charge for the Chiefs going three for three with an RBI and scoring a run. Besides Danver with two hits were Cole Kephart, Coleman Kubala, and Steve Miller. The Chiefs outhit their hosts 14 to nine in the game.
The Chiefs finished the season with a respectable 9-7 league record and an 11-15-1 overall record.
