Disney sets "Oz" prequel for 2013

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN Entertainment) – Disney is set to bring a big-budget prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” to the big-screen and they’ve already set the 3D adventure for release in 2013.

“Oz: The Great and Powerful” will hit theaters on March 8th, 2013. Sam Raimi, who directed the three “Spider-Man” films, is attached to direct. It’s his first film since 2009′s horror comedy “Drag Me to Hell.”

James Franco will play the role of the young wizard who finds his hot air balloon swept up by a tornado and transported to Oz, years before Dorothy ever stepped in. There, he’ll have to battle two witches who have control of the land.

“Oz: The Great and Powerful” is just one of the films Disney has slated for release in 2013. They’ve also lined up “Iron Man 3″ for May and the “Monsters Inc.” prequel “Monsters University” for June.
