Mogadishu, Somalia (AHN) – The embattled president of Somalia on Monday inaugurated Somali National Television for the first time in 20 years.
Speaking at a ceremony in the Somali capital to mark the launching of the station, Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed said it is a historic day for Somali people.
Ahmed described the step as a great move forward, acknowledging the ministry of information and its workers for their success in a short time.
The president urged the ministry of information to continue its efforts to develop the different sections of telecommunication in the country.
Ministers, lawmakers and distinguished guests were invited to attend the historic ceremony.
In February, Somalia’s al Qaeda-inspired group launched a local channel television to promulgate its ideology and propaganda.
