When the Lady Tide stepped onto the Frank Varischetti Sports Complex basketball court inside, it stayed cold. Very cold for the Curwensville girls.
After it was all over DCC had an easy 72-25 win over Curwensville, which fell to 3-12 on the 2010-11 season. The Lady Cardinals, now winners of three straight, improved to 8-11.
The Cardinals jumped out to a 15-0 lead before Lady Tide Paige McCracken scored the first points for her team.
Lady Tide head coach Rusty McCracken summed up the night, “We were obviously pretty cold the entire night. DuBois Central jumped out to a 15-0 lead before we scored and we just never recovered. They (DCC) are playing very well right now.”
After one period the Lady Cardinals were up 18-6, and at the half it was 37-16.
The second half wasn’t much better for Curwensville as it was easily outscored 35-9 in the lopsided affair.
McCracken finished by stating, “When we ran our offense we scored quite a bit of the time. But then the girls got away from it, just standing around waiting for things to happen instead of making things happen.”
The Lady Cardinals had three girls in double figures with Miller Hopkins leading the way with 22 while Megan Witherow had 18 and Lauresa Gulvas 12. Hopkins was a perfect 10 of 10 from the free throw line for the evening.
Taylor Bumbarger and Savannah Strickland each had six for Curwensville followed by Katrina Seaburn adding five. Katie Wriglesworth had a big night on the boards as she hauled down 11 rebounds.
