London, England, United Kingdom (CNS) – Radio personality Allan Watkiss, who has brought American country music to British listeners for over 10 years, has received the Country Music Association International Broadcaster Award.
During a live broadcast of Watkiss’ show, “Your Country” last week, he was surprised with the award while interviewing CMA Chief Executive Officer Steve Moore.
“Allan Watkiss has been an excellent ambassador for Country Music in Great Britain,” said Moore. “CMA is proud to present him our International Broadcaster Award.”
The prestigious award recognizes outstanding achievement by radio broadcasters outside the United States who have made important contributions toward the development of Country music in their country.
The radio host, who fell in love with Country music in the late 1980s while volunteering at a hospital radio station, launched an online radio station in 2007, playing both British and American Country music.
“Your Country” is a daily broadcast, which introduces American Country Music to British audiences.
Watkiss has interviewed superstar artists like Dierks Bentley, Reba McEntire, Brad Paisley and George Strait.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working to make UK audiences more aware of the great Country Music that is out there,” Watkiss said as he received his award. “To receive recognition from CMA in this way is amazing. Thank you to everyone who has supported my work over the last decade.”
