John Emerick, John Kelsey and Bill Boyle stand for a photo after the meeting.DUBOIS – On Monday the City of DuBois welcomed a new fire chief while remembering one from the past.

Former Fire Chief Jim Corby ended his term with a report on the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department.  He will be succeeded by John Kelsey.  John Emerick will be Kelsey’s first assistant, with Bill Boyle as the second assistant.

Corby wasn’t the only former fire chief to be missed.  Bruce Berquist passed away on Jan. 6 of this year.  He served three full terms as a Fire Chief for the City of DuBois from 1989 to 1994.

“I served seven years under Bruce.  He was an excellent Fire Chief and man,” said City Manager John “Herm” Suplizio.

“We are much poorer for this loss,” said City Solicitor Toni Cherry.
