In a game that saw 54 free throws taken with a total of over 40 fouls called, the Lady Owls improved to 2-7 on the year under first year head coach Ralph Butterworth. The Lady Tide dropped their second straight contest to fall to 2-4 on the 2010-11 campaign.
Curwensville coach Rusty McCracken said afterwards, “We are notoriously a high fouling team and I am not sure why that is. I know the girls were getting frustrated tonight and there were many reasons why I am very frustrated after this loss.”
The Lady Tide did manage to build a one point lead after the first quarter, leading Harmony 7-6.
Then the Lady Owls picked up the tempo over the remaining 24 minutes by outscoring their hosts 34-22 thanks in part to Harmony point guard Makenzie Kruise. Kruise would lead all scorers on the evening by pouring in 19 points, with nine coming in the third frame when Harmony took the game over by scoring 14 to just five points for Curwensville.
Kruise had help from teammate Katie Novella, who tossed in 10 points; while the Lady Tide was paced by sophomore Katrina Seaburn, who hit for eight.
Harmony was 13 of 33 from the free throw stripe while the Lady Tide went nine for 21.
McCracken closed with, “Sometimes we just can’t find a way to put the ball in the basket. We keep trying, but you never know how things will turn out.”
In junior varsity activity it was the Lady Tide stopping the Lady Owls 39-9 to pick up the win.
Curwensville returns to the hardwood on Friday when they host the DuBois Central Catholic Lady Cardinals at Patton Hall starting with the JV game at 6 pm.
