Lake Buena Vista, FL, United States (AHN) – After being courted by the Yankees, Red Sox, and other teams, several sources claimed top free agent outfielder Carl Crawford is close to signing with the Los Angeles Angels.

The general consensus around this week’s Winter Meetings among players and executives is that Crawford is days away from donning a halo.

“I think the process is just about done, and hopefully we can land him this week,” current Angels outfielder Torrii Hunter, a longtime friend of Crawford, told the Los Angles Times. “The Angels are really trying. I know that for a fact.”

Crawford, 29, is considered the top position player on the market, a career .296 hitter with 105 triples and 409 stolen bases in eight seasons with the Devil Rays.

The Houston native has also drawn interest from the defending AL Champion Rangers, who are still preoccupied with possibly re-signing Cliff Lee. Detroit has also shown some interest.

The Angels are looking into improving an offense that went from second overall in 2009 to just 19th this past season.
