London, United Kingdom (AHN) – British table tennis star Kelly Sibley indicated fears of not being able to compete at the 2012 London Games due to lack of funding.
The 22-year-old Warwickshire paddler lost her funding from UK Sport despite being Great Britain’s highest ranked female player.
“Sponsorship would help with training, travelling and living expenses,” Sibley, currently ranked the number two player in England, told the BBC.
“To not be able to continue training at the highest level due to lack of funds available would be truly devastating,” added Sibley, who has represented England at two Commonwealth Games, including this year’s Delhi event.
Sibley has captured a Division Two gold medal at the 2008 World Team Championships and won the ladies doubles bronze medal at the 2009 Commonwealth Championships.
At the recent Delhi Games, Sibley was part of the fourth place finish in the tea women’s event.
