Arlington, TX, United States (AHN) – Nolan Ryan has plenty of dreams for his Texas Rangers, but right now, the player-turned-owner is focused on one thing: transforming his baseball club into an attractive commodity in the MLB.
After the club’s last hurrah in the 1999 playoffs, the Rangers struggled to sell tickets, mainly because of the team’s lackadaisical performance in the last 10 years.
Ryan, who played the last four seasons of his Hall of Fame career with the Rangers, is nevertheless committed to turning the franchise into a well-oiled marketing machine.
Together with his co-owner Chuck Greenberg, Ryan has already taken the initial steps of their marketing campaign, cutting prices on some selected items and services, from beers to parking.
Moreover, the owners also assigned Katie Crawford as their first fan ambassador, who will accept various suggestions of their fans.
The Rangers flag girls are also an enticing attraction at Rangers Ballpark, waving Texas flags each time the home team scores a run.
Vice president for in-park entertainment Chuck Morgan said the Rangers will unveil more surprises in the coming days, all aimed at developing a great relationship with their fans.
