Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Relegated to the bottom of the depth chart at the start of camp, University of Southern California tailback Marc Tyler was on the verge of quitting.
However, Tyler endured and was selected as the Trojan’s starting running back for the season opener Thursday at Hawaii.
The Yorba Linda, CA., native was ranked as the second best running back prospect in the U.S. behind fellow USC recruit Joe McKnight in 2007.
However, Tyler suffered a slew of injuries and never got his chance to shine, until now.
Tyler consistently outperformed his fellow Trojan backs at camp and steadily climbed up the depth chart.
Tyler , who played alongside recently drafted quarterback Jimmy Clausen at Oaks Christian High School, is the son of former UCLA and NFL running back Wendell Tyler. Wendell was USC athletic director Pat Haden’s teammate on the St. Louis Rams.
Tyler has carried the ball 41 times for 270 yards and a touchdown over two seasons with USC.
