Cincinnati, OH, United States (AHN) – On the brink of cancellation, the Association of Volleyball Professionals managed to save the Cincinnati Players Championship at Hahana Beach in September.
The event, taking place Sept. 3-5, features a star-studded lineup, including female Olympians Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh.
Also appearing at the event are Huntington Beach Open winners Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers. The AVP also has confirmed Nicole Branagh, Annett Davis, Jake Gibb, Jenny Jordan, Jen Kessy, April Ross, Angie Akers, Dianne DeNecochea, Matt Fuerbringer, Brittany Hochevar, John Hyden, Casey Jennings, Brad Keenan, Nick Lucena, Sean Scott, Tyra Turner, and Rachel Wacholder.
“Signing all of these players for the Cincinnati Players Championship speaks to the strength and tradition of the Cincinnati event, the local commitment and most importantly the continued support of the fans,” said marketing director Mario Chicchinelli in a press release.
The event seemed unlikely a short time ago when financial difficulties forced professional beach volleyball’s AVP Tour to shut down.
