Mountain Bike Race in Black Moshannon State Park Slated for Aug. 15

Following winding trails through the Moshannon Forest, across areas of rugged terrain, mountain bike riders will face a challenging course through the Black Moshannon State Park. Mountain bike racers have two options that will take them through the State Park. The course, designed for sport enthusiasts and experienced riders, covers 16 miles, with an additional four-mile loop designed to challenge experienced racers.

The Aug. 15 race, sponsored by the Moshannon Valley YMCA and the Mount Nittany Bike Association, will begin at 11 a.m., at the Black Moshannon State Park, known throughout the area for the bike trails. The Black Moshannon Park is easily accessed along state Route 504, just off U.S. Route 322 in Philipsburg. 

Racers can pre-register on line at movalleyymca.org; by following the link to the race, or register at the beach pavilion in the park beginning at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15; cost is $25. Racers who register by Aug. 13 receive a T-shirt. Racers can also find a detailed map of the course options at the Moshannon Valley YMCA web site. Awards for the fastest racers in each category and the fastest over-all will be presented.  Participants must wear helmets and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign a waver permitting them to ride.
