The Aug. 15 race, sponsored by the Moshannon Valley YMCA and the Mount Nittany Bike Association, will begin at 11 a.m., at the Black Moshannon State Park, known throughout the area for the bike trails. The Black Moshannon Park is easily accessed along state Route 504, just off U.S. Route 322 in Philipsburg.
Racers can pre-register on line at movalleyymca.org; by following the link to the race, or register at the beach pavilion in the park beginning at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15; cost is $25. Racers who register by Aug. 13 receive a T-shirt. Racers can also find a detailed map of the course options at the Moshannon Valley YMCA web site. Awards for the fastest racers in each category and the fastest over-all will be presented. Participants must wear helmets and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign a waver permitting them to ride. Mountain bike riders, like Aaron Hofelt, will race through the Black Moshannon State Park Aug. 15 traveling over challenging terrain. Sport enthusiasts will follow a 16-mile course while expert riders will add an additional four-mile loop to the course.
