Long Pond, PA, United States (AHN) – Elliott Sadler is a proud new father and has a glowing wife, but what he hasn’t done in 211 races NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races is win.
His current losing streak was a little easier to accept Saturday after he won the the inaugural Pocono Mountains 125 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Pocono Raceway.
Sadler, who hasn’t finished in the top-10 all season in the Cup Series and is leaving Richard Petty Motorsports at the end of the season, wheeled his Kevin Harvick Inc. Chevrolet to victory by pulling away on the second attempt at a green-white-checkered finish.
The 35-year-old Sadler beat Kasey Kahne by .445 seconds in a race that went five laps of overtime over the 2.5-mile triangular track. It was Sadler’s first Truck Series win, making him the 21st driver to win in all three of NASCAR’s major three touring series.
“I thought it was a really awesome race. The way that the trucks sucked up here, especially when there was five or six close together and two or three wide, it was probably as exciting of a front straightaway or all three straightaways as there has been that I have been on. It was really cool and I really enjoyed it,” said Kahne.
“Hopefully the trucks come back next year and race more laps. I think this race should be a little bit longer and that would even make it better. It was good. I want to thank Kyle Busch and his whole team – he has a really good team – strong team, strong trucks and a lot of fun to drive. I just didn’t get it done today. I felt like we had the truck to beat. Elliott (Sadler) was really quick, he did a good job and won the race, but I felt like we should have been there and just didn’t get it done.”
Matt Crafton finished third and was followed by Aric Almirola and rookie Justin Lofton.
Mike Skinner, Austin Dillon, Timothy Peters, Denny Hamlin and Jason White rounded out the top-10 finishers as Cup regular occupied two of the top-10 finishing spots.
