Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – MTV, get ready to pay up. The cast of “Jersey Shore” scored the most-watched cable telecast of the year, and also MTV’s best season premiere ratings in seven years.
The misadventures of Snooki, The Situation, DJ Pauly D, and the gang pulled in 5.3 million viewers during the Thursday night telecast. That’s a 300% ratings increase from the first season premiere for the hour-long episode (that only pulled in 1.375 million viewers).
Thursday night’s premiere also earned half a million more views than the first season’s finale when it aired in January this year and pulled in 4.8 million viewers, originally the show’s most watched episode.
The premiere of the second season also drew the highest season premiere ratings for an MTV show since “The Osbournes” debuted their second season over seven years ago.
Besides their hard-partying ways, the cast made news when they held out for more money before agreeing to sign on to another season of the “Shore.” With the huge success of its second season premiere, MTV will probably have to shell out a lot more money to cover those new tanning taxes.
