Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – Amid WikiLeaks revelations, which published American military files claiming that Pakistan’s intelligence has backed the Taliban, U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said that the situation had changed.

“That’s been a problem in the past, it’s a problem we’re dealing with, and (it) is changing,” Biden told reporters. “All those leaks predate our policy… not one leak is consistent with our policy announced in December.”

Biden also dismissed reports claiming that parts of U.S. aid disbursed to Pakistan was misused and used to aid the Taliban.

Meanwhile, Defense Secretary, Robert Gates, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Mike Mullen, censured the WikiLeaks organization for putting the lives of US soldiers at risk by publishing more than 90,000 classified US Defense files. “These documents represent a mountain of raw data and individual impressions, most several years old, devoid of context or analysis,” Gates said.

In reply to a question related with British Prime Minister David Cameron’s warning to Islamabad over militancy, he said that there had been a sea change in Pakistan’s approach towards combating terrorism in the last couple of months. Mullen, claimed that the South Asian country had been handling militancy with an iron hand.

Elaborating on the issue, State Department spokesman, Phillip Crowley, said the US is “working with Pakistan to eliminate the safe havens which are a threat to Pakistan and a threat to Afghanistan and a threat to the United States.”
