NY, NY, United States (AHN) – The New York Rangers agreed to terms on a one year, $3 million deal with former Los Angeles Kings forward Alexander Frolov Tuesday.
Frolov, 28, scored 32 goals in the 2008-09 season, but fell out of favor with coach Terry Murray and managed just 19 in 2009-10.
“Alex is a highly skilled player who we feel will play a key role in improving our offense and play in all situations,” said Rangers president and general manager Glen Sather in a statement. “He is strong competitor and has the ability to play either wing position.”
The Moscow native has notched at least 21 goals and 24 assists in five of his seven seasons, all with the Kings. Frolov has amassed 168 goals and 213 assists in 536 regular-season NHL games.
The Rangers are hoping the addition of Frolov’s scoring will help bolster an offense ranked 16th in goals per game last season (2.67).
