Evian-les-Bains, France (AHN) – Jiyai Shin the former world’s No. 1 ranked women’s player is back on top again.
Shin holed a birdie putt from just outside eight feet on the 72nd hole for a 14-under par total of 274 and won the Evian Masters Sunday.
Shin and Morgan Pressel were tied with two others players when they came to the final hole at the Evian Masters Golf Club.
Lexi Thompson, the 15-year-old sensation, had posted a five-under par 67 and was in the clubhouse at 13-under par 275 along with Na Yeon Choi, who birdied four of her last five holes for a 66.
But Shin showed why she’s back again as the top-ranked player in the Rolex Rankings when she rolled in the winning putt. Pressel had a chance to tie but her putt caught a piece of the hole but failed to go in.
Pressel, the third-round leader, had things going her way on the front nine. She holed out her approach at hte par four fifth for an eagle that took her to 13-under, then a birdie at the par five ninth got her to 14-under with a 33 on the front nine.
But she bogeyed the 10th and played a lackluster back nine with no birdies.
Shin’s birdie at 18 gave her a 67 and prevented a four-way playoff as Thompson, Pressel and Choi, tied for second at 13-under par, 275.
Suzann Pettersen, who shot 66 for her final round, was alone at 12-under, 276.
