Dodgers Blue: Calf Strain Sidelines Manny For Three Weeks

Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Los Angeles Dodgers slugger Manny Ramirez was placed on the disabled list with a right calf strain, multiple sources reported Wednesday.
Ramirez will be sidelined for the third time this season after suffering a right calf strain in the first inning of Friday night’s loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
The 38-year old Ramirez was just playing for the second game off a 15-day DL period (due to a strained right hamstring) when the injury flared up again.
Ramirez skipped the next three games before an MRI examination found a recurring strain in his right calf, which could sideline the outfielder for another three weeks.
“A significant strain” and “that’s why it wouldn’t go away,” Dodgers manager Joe Torre told the L.A. Times about Ramirez’s injury-prone season. “I just said, ‘At some point I’ll get you back.’”
Without Ramirez, the Dodgers have clearly a huge hole to fill in their roster.
Torre already assigned Xavier Paul to replace Ramirez at left field while they mull calling up another player from the minors.
Plagued with hamstring concerns, Ramirez is batting .317 with eight home runs, 39 RBI, and 31 runs.
