New York, N.Y., United States (AHN) – After spurning offers from several teams, including the Knicks, to join the Miami Heat; LeBron James was back in New York attending the wedding of Denver Nuggets superstar Carmelo Anthony and former MTV video jockey LaLa Vasquez on Saturday.
As expected, the visit of the reigning two-time NBA MVP sparked outrage outside Anthony’s wedding.
According to myFoxny.com, James was received by loud boos outside the wedding in Cipriani 42nd Street, when he arrived with galpal Savannah Brinson.
In a televised announcement Thursday night, the 25-year-old All-Star announced his decision to leave Cleveland and join fellow free-agent stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami.
It sparked widespread scrutiny and translated to a massive slap in the face for teams like the Knicks and the Bulls, who were considered front-runners in the “King James” sweepstakes.
But it fails in comparison to the blow he delivered to his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, who were expecting loyalty from the NBA superstar.
Cavs owner Dan Gilbert gave his former player a piece of his mind through an open letter to fans.
Gilbert denouncing James’ decision as “selfish”, “heartless”, “callous” and “cowardly betrayal”, while guaranteeing the Cavaliers would capture the elusive NBA title before the “self-declared former King.”
Apart from James, who arrived without talking to reporters or to the crowd of onlookers, other stars who graced the wedding included: Kim Kardashian, Serena Williams, Ludacris, Ciara, Spike Lee and Kelly Rowland.
Other basketball stars in attendance included Amar’e Stoudemire and fellow Nugget Kenyon Martin.
Anthony, a 26-year-old Nuggets All-Star, and ‘You Got Served’ star Vasquez, 31, decided to tie the knot after a five-and-a-half-year engagement. They have a three-year-old son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony.
