College World Series: TCU Pummels UCLA; So. Carolina Downs Clemson

Omaha, NE, United States (AHN) – TCU Horned Frogs freshman pitcher Matt Purke came up with another terrific performance Friday, allowing only two runs in six innings in a 6-2 victory over the UCLA Bruins.
Purke (16-0) remained flawless this season, tallying two strikeouts and two walks in six innings of action.
Reliever Tyler Lockwood secured the win for TCU after allowing the Bruins a single hit in the last two innings.
Aside from the TCU pitchers, Taylor Featherston also played well with a homer, two hits, two walks, and three RBI.
Power hitter Jerome Pena also contributed one homer, two hits, one walks and two RBI for the Horned Frogs.
Leading only 3-2 in the bottom of 7th inning, Featherston blasted a two-run homer to extend their lead to 5-2.
After Lockwood held the Bruins scoreless, Bryan Holaday scored another blast in the eighth to finish the baseball game at 6-2.
Cody Regis and Chris Giovinazzo made the game close, but TCU scored the critical runs in the final innings.
With the victory, TCU forced a winner-take-all game with UCLA Saturday 2 p.m. EST for a spot in the College World Series series.
Meanwhile, South Carolina also staved off elimination with a 5-1 win over Clemson Friday.
South Carolina starting pitcher Michael Roth (2-1) tallied four strikeouts and allowed Clemson to score a single run over 9 innings.
South Carolina Jackie Bradley and Kyle Enders also contributed big for South Carolina, driving in several runs to keep Clemson at bay.
Bradley finished the game with one hit and two RBI, while Enders had one homer, two hits, and two RBI.
South Carolina’s victory forces a do-or-die match with Clemson Saturday (7:00 PM EST).
The winner will face either UCLA or TCU for the College World Series series next week.
