San Jose, Ca., United States (AHN) – The San Jose Earthquakes have been creating a rumble in Major League Soccer.
The club that is only two years out of a two year hiatus that sent former coach Dominic Kinnear and some of his staff to Houston, the Quakes are sitting at fourth in the Western Conference.
Since returning to MLS, San Jose has never finished better than seventh in the eight member Western Conference; they are currently 3-1 at home and have a 4-2-1 overall record. The lone home loss came against 2009 co-MLS Cup winner Real Salt Lake.
Coach Frank Yallop, who won two MLS cups with the Quakes in 2001 and 2003, has been building the club to its once proud position. The defense has made a statement becoming a much stingier squad this season, has reignited a fire in Bobby Convey who had a team leading four assists and have traded to get some extra talent.
San Jose acquired Chris Wondolowski last season, who has become a legitimate scoring threat for the team. Wondolowski had made four goals on nine shots and one assist in four starts.
With the hot start, the team can’t get enough action.
“The games can’t really come quick enough for us right now,” Convey said. “We don’t want to train, we want to play games and everyone is looking forward to the next game.”
San Jose returns to action May 22 when they travel to Seattle to do battle with the Sounds FC.
