Deerfield Beach, FL, United States (AHN) – Authorities searching the home of Wayne Treacy, the teen who savagely beat a girl at a school bus stop discovered a document resembling will.
Deputies armed with a warrant searched the trailer Treacy resides at with his mother and stepfather early Friday morning and turned the findings over to prosecutors in the case.
News of the search surprised Treacy’s lawyer, Russel Williams. He was unsure what other information prosecutors needed that they didn’t already have.
According to reports the warrant specifically mentioned computer equipment however deputies made the surprising find which they characterized as a “letter/will.”
Williams is concerned about this recent development and says that any communiques Treacy shared with his parents is privileged. What makes this case interesting is that Treacy is a client of Williams and despite being a minor he’s being charged as an adult even though his parents are his custodians.
Treacy’s victim Josie Lou Ratley, 15, has been undergoing medical treatment at Broward General medical Center and been confined to her bed since the March 17 attack. Ratley’s alleged attacker,
Wayne Treacy,15, beat the girl and stomped on her head wearing steel toed boots during an attack at Deerfield Beach Middle School. Treacy was reportedly incensed over a disparaging text message Ratley sent the boy about his brother, who had recently committed suicide.
Williams said that the “letter/will” found could give insight into his client’s mental state. It’s believed that Williams will use a mental health defense for his client who has already pleaded not guilty to a charge of first degree attempted murder earlier this week.
Currently Treacy is being held at the main Broward County jail in Fort Lauderdale.
Friday’s discovery comes ahead of a weekend full of events dedicated to Ratley. Community members are holding the events to show support for the Deerfield Beach teen who currently is still suffering from extensive brain damage.
