Miami, FL, United States (AHN) – A plane carrying the NBA’s Miami Heat was forced to make an emergency landing in Chicago early Sunday due to an ill crew member.
The man reportedly fell into a diabetic coma and was taken to a hospital upon the plane’s arrival at O’Hare Airport.
The man, unidentified by name in early reports though believed to be the flight mechanic, is expected to recover.
Heat star Dwyane Wade, whose team was returning from a game vs. the Timberwolves in Minneapolis, twittered his thoughts.
“Hey everyone pray for our pilot,” Wade wrote. “We just had a emergency landing in Chicago. He went into a coma. God bless this man and his family.”
The Miami Herald reported the plane arrived in Chicago at 1:30 a.m. and continued on its way to Miami at about 2:30 a.m.
“Just landed back in [Miami] feels good to be back home safe and sound,” Heat guard Daequan Cook wrote on his twitter account.
