Rain Pushes NHRA Eliminations To Monday

<p>Concord, NC, United States (AHN) – Persistent showers and a forecast for more severe weather throughout the day forced NHRA officials to postpone Sunday’s inaugural NHRA Four-Wide Nationals to Monday at zMAX Dragway.</p>
<p>
The Top Fuel and Funny Car divisions completed two rounds and Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle got in one round before rain started to fall just past 2 p.m. in the first NHRA event to feature four-lane racing instead of the traditional two.</p>
<p>
Weather permitting, racing will resume Monday with the continuation of several classes before the Top Fuel and Funny Car final rounds begin at 11 a.m. Final rounds for Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle are scheduled to be completed around 12:30 p.m.</p>
<p>
Cory McClenathan, Doug Kalitta, Antron Brown and Doug Herbert will make up the Top Fuel final and the Funny Car final will be between 14-time world champ John Force, his daughter Ashley Force Hood, Matt Hagan and Ron Capps.</p>
<p>
Series leader Mike Edwards, Jason Line, Bob Yonke will be in contention in Pro Stock eliminations after top qualifier Jeg Coughlin and Greg Anderson were upset.</p>
<p>
Four of the top-five points leaders in Pro Stock Motorcycle were upset in the first round and defending series champ Hector Arana, top qualifier Matt Smith and past Charlotte winner Steve Johnson all advanced to the second round.</p>
<p>
ESPN2′s continuation of coverage is scheduled for Monday at 12:30 p.m. (ET). The 30-min. show will feature the final rounds in Top Fuel and Funny Car and the second round and final of Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle competition at the first NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event to feature racing in four lanes instead of two.<br />
