Santa Clara,, CA, United States (AHN) – The San Francisco 49ers reportedly severed ties with general manager Scot McCloughan Thursday, citing “personal matters.”
The dismissal was reported by the San Francisco Chronicle on its website, citing a report by AOL Fanhouse, which tried to reach McCloughan Thursday morning.
McCloughan, who became the 49ers general manager in January 2008, said nothing to dispute reports of his impending termination, but simply told the Fanhouse via text: “I’m fine and moving forward.”
He reportedly met Wednesday with top team officials, including owner Jed York.
The sudden dismissal will impact the 49ers, who are preoccupied with hosting free agents and scheduling draft prospect visits.
San Francisco has two first-round picks in next month’s draft – No. 13 and No. 17 overall.
