London, United Kingdom (AHN) – A Banksy poster that had to be censored to use on the London Underground has been corrected by an unidentified graffiti artist. The poster, which shows a boy kneeling in prayer, originally had a dripping yellow halo around the boy’s head.

The poster was to promote his film “Forgive Us Our Trespassing,” but the Transport for London banned the dripping halo. The poster was reworked and displayed without the offensive drips. Within days of the poster being hung in London Bridge Tube Station on March 11th, the circle over the boy’s head had been repainted. The poster has now been removed due to Tube advertising bosses saying it was “defaced.”

Benjamin Moore from Art Below, the team behind the poster, part of a program of art on the Underground, said he did not know who has “defaced” the work but said that there was a chance that it was Banksy himself. Moore comments: “It is either Banksy or one of his people. Or it could be a massive fan who wants the artwork to remain how it originally was. In the past he wrote to us and told us there are too many rules and regulations on the Tube.”

A Transport for London spokesperson said: “The artwork in question was accepted for display on one site on the Tube network by CBS Outdoor, our advertising contractor, and was without the halo. However the artwork has been removed because it was subsequently defaced.”
