Washington, D.C., United States (AHN) – The wife of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has been released from a hospital after breaking her neck in a car accident last week.

Landra Reid, 69, was injured along with her daughter on Thursday after a semi-truck rear-ended their vehicle while driving on a highway in Washington, D.C. She broke her back, neck and nose in the crash, and underwent surgery on Friday.

Their only daughter, 49-year-old Lana, suffered a neck injury and facial lacerations. She was released from the hospital last week.

The driver of the truck in the four-vehicle collision has been charged with reckless driving.

“The tremendous concern and support for Landra and Lana from people across Nevada and across the nation have deeply touched our entire family,” Sen. Reid said in a statement. “We greatly appreciate your thoughts during this difficult time. Landra and I have been married for 50 years. She is the love of my life, and I look forward to her making a full recovery as quickly as possible.”

Reid married his wife, his high school sweatheart, in 1959. They have four other children apart from Lana, all sons, one of which is Rory, a Democratic contender for governor this year.

Reid, 70, is seeking a fifth term this year amid declining poll numbers that some pundits attribute to political fallout from the contentious healthcare debate, as well as growing dissatisfaction with Washington. He is up against a crowded field of eight Republicans vying for the party nomination, including Nevada GOP chairwoman Sue Lowden and real estate executive and former UNLV basketball star Danny Tarkanian.
