Augusta, GA, United States (AHN) – After two and a half years in storage at the Augusta Golf and Gardens, golf enthusiasts and visitors will be able to take a glimpse again at the bronze statues of six golfing legends.
The larger-than-life statues of Jack Nicklaus, Bobby Jones, Byron Nelson, Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan and Ray Floyd will return to public view Friday following permission from the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.
The bronze greats, commissioned by mostly local donors for display at the Golf Hall of Fame, will go back on display in their new home, the Augusta Museum of History.
It will be in conjunction with the opening of a permanent golf exhibit and in time for The Masters.
The public missed the statues the last two tournaments after the Golf Hall of Fame put them on ice following a cut in state funding resulting in the closure of the downtown gardens.
Each work of art costs an average of $100,000 and remains state property. They weigh between 700-1,200 pounds each.
