Lubbock, TX, United States (AHN) – Texas Tech Red Raiders head coach Pat Knight will reportedly return for the 2010-2011 season, the school’s athletic spokesman Chris Cook confirmed Friday.
Knight, 39, will return for his third season with the Red Raiders, since he assumed the role after his father, the legendary Bob Knight, resigned in the latter part of the 2007-2008 season.
Knight led the Raiders to a 17-15 overall mark, and the program has a chance to play in the upcoming NIT tournament.
The young coach addressed the team’s need to improve next season, as John Roberson and Mike Singletary return for their senior year.
Knight has also seen steady progress in his coaching career, as the Raiders’ won-loss record has improved every year._
Knight insists he wants the program rise to another level to regularly compete with powers like in-state rival Texas.
“We have to improve it next year,” Knight told Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. “The third year is big, no matter who you are, especially if you’re Joe Schmoe like me and it’s your first job. We’ve shown improvement but I’m not dumb. We have to show even more improvement next season.”
