New York City, NY, United States (CNS) – Movies and TV shows about slacking off have been a cornerstone of cable channel Comedy Central, but the network is ready to get to work with its newest project. Kind of.
The all-comedy channel has announced plans to pick up “Workaholics” from Avalon Television, Inc. and Gigapix Studios. Slated for 10 half-hour scripted episodes beginning this summer, the series is based on webisodes from outlets such as 5th Year and Mail Order Comedy.
Kent Alterman, head of original programming and production for Comedy Central, said in a press release that the pilot for the series was one of the great surprises he found waiting on his desk upon his arrival in the job.
“These guys have a unique comedic sensibility that they’ve applied to a very relatable experience – that delicate time between college and becoming a responsible adult,” Alterman said. “For me, that period lasted for decades.”
The series follows Blake Anderson, Anders Holm and Adam Devine of Mail Order Comedy as three buddies just out of college hit hard by the responsibilities of adult life. In order to avoid having any kind of real duties in their telemarketing jobs, they spend their days doing everything they can to get out of work and party all night. Kyle Newacheck will direct several episodes.
“Things have been happening very quickly and we’ve finally upgraded our underwear to breathable mesh,” said the stars and director. “We’ve got a daunting task ahead of us, but we’ve got a leg up with our built-in Web audience of 35 people. Shout out to BashirH, Eqseep and AwesomeCoolGuy2.”
