Indian PM Accepts World Statesman Award, To Receive In NYC In Sept., Says Ambassador

Washington, DC, United States (AHN) – Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted and would receive the Appeal of Conscience Foundation 2010 World Statesman Award in September in New York, it was announced by Meera Shankar, Indian Ambassador to the U.S. in Washington, DC.
The prestigious award would be presented to the Prime Minister in September, said John Negroponte, the former Deputy Secretary of State on Thursday, at a reception hosted at the residence of Shankar in Washington.??
Past recipients of the international award include British Prime Minister Gordon Brown (2009), French President Nicolas Sarkozy (2008), German Chancellor Angela Merkel (2007) and Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (2006).
Founded by Rabbi Arthur Schneier in 1965, the Appeal of Conscience Foundation, an interfaith partnership, bringing together corporate and spiritual leaders from all faiths to promote “peace, tolerance and ethnic conflict resolution.” It has worked on behalf of religious freedom and human rights throughout the world.
