Twins Lock Up Outfielder Span With Five-Year, $16.5M Pact

Fort Myers, FL, United States (AHN) – The Minnesota Twins announced Saturday the signing of Denard Span to a five-year, $16.5 million contract with a $9 million club option for the 2015 season.

Span, 26, will be paid an increasing salary starting with $750,000 this season and ending with $6.5 million in 2014.

Span had an impressive sophomare campaign last season, batting. 311 with a league-leading 10 triples.

He also hit eight homers along with 68 RBI in 145 games for the Twins.

In his brief two-year career, Span is batting .305 with 32 doubles, 17 triples, 14 home runs and 115 RBI in 238 games.
