New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Former NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson reportedly visited the New York Jets Friday as part of his free-agency tour this offseason.

The San Diego Chargers released Tomlinson on February 22, after playing nine seasons with the football squad.

Tomlinson was coming from the worst season of his career, posting only 730 yards with 12 touchdowns.

Before the 2009 season, Tomlinson had an eight consecutive campaigns of 1000 or more yards with the Chargers.

Tomlinson, 30, showed some interest in joining the Vikings, after meeting the team’s executives in Minnesota Thursday.

However, Tomlinson insisted he needs to take a look at some other teams like the Jets, who lost running back Thomas Jones.

Jones, 31, was due to earn $5.8 million in salary and bonuses, but the running back and the Jets failed to agree on a restructured contract.

Jones then decided to sign a two-year, $5 million deal with the Kansas Chiefs on March 9.

If Tomlinson joined the Jets, he would be reunited with former Chargers quarterback coach and Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.

Tomlinson, the 2006 NFL MVP, would likely end up backing up either Jets running back Shonn Greene or Vikings All-Pro Adrian Peterson.

The Jets are currently looking for a solid back-up for Greene, who became the Jets’ no.1 running back during their remarkable playoff campaign last season.

Seeded fifth in the postseason, the Jets defeated both the fourth-seeded Bengals and the second-seeded Chargers to advance to their first AFC championship appearance in recent years.

The Vikings also want to fill the hole left by Chester Taylor, who recently signed a four-year, $12.5 million contract with the Chicago Bears.
