Accra, Ghana (AHN) – Didier Drogba has been named African Footballer of the Year.

Drogba, 32, scored five goals for the Ivory Coast in the recent African Nations Cup, in a season which has already brought the striker 25 goals at club level for Chelsea.

With less than 100 days to go before the first World Cup ever to be held on African soil kicks off in South Africa, the awards ceremony celebrated the best and brightest of African soccer.

Alongside Drogba, Algeria won the award for best team having qualified for the upcoming World Cup finals and reached the semifinals of the African Nations Cup.

Ghanian Dominic Adiyiah won the Young Player of the Year award, while compatriot Sellas Tetteh garnered Coach of the Year after leading the nations Under 20 side to World Cup success last year.
